Summer is going well. It's a hot one, and we finally got an air conditioner upstairs so we're no longer sweating at night. Can't sleep when I'm hot, that's for sure.

I've been listening to a lot of the usual this summer; The Hold Steady, The National, Titus Andronicus, and even my old mall punk favorite Taking Back Sunday.

I gotta say though - I've been in the mood for something heavy, yet not angsty and deafheaven have done it with their Sunbather album.

It's as if white metal was a genre, or perhaps this is post-metal as metal is kind of dead. I don't really care to describe music using genres, and I don't really want to describe how it feels as that may be too cheesy. Either way it seems like deafheaven is pioneering something new and altogether exciting.

You should give it a listen. I think it's rad.

"The Big D"

I'm sitting in the Dallas airport and admiring just how great this map looks. Old fucker just communicates.

On my way down here, I sat next to this adorable little boy who played video games, looked at family photos, and watched home movies of his dad, brother, mom, and dog on his iPhone and iPad.

He showed me a photo of his Golden-doodle dog named Bear that he was excited to get home to. I showed him a photo of our poodle and he got a kick out of her, and said "she was pretty."

Good kid.

This is my first time in Texas, and of course I'm stuck in an airport alone - missing my girl and my four legged and feathered kids, but the silver lining is in the destination.

I'll be in California tonight.

Flooded

A few hundred gallons of the god damn Ohio River has taken a break in our basement.

"You need to come home right now" is the phone call I get from Becca while I'm at work last night. Pipe broke and is spewing the Ohio right into our underground and the good fer nothin' sump pump is drowning and spitting up water.

I have no idea what the fuck to do so I call 911 and they forward my dumbass to the water department who comes out promptly and shuts it down.

Plumber is downstairs right now putting an end to the shit, installing a new sump pump, and hopefully fixin' this leakage/burstage pronto.

He promises me, "Don't be payin' the ransom! I'll escape."

Sounds good.

MADCAP Coffee - Spring Fling

It's floral, delicious and super fresh. We just received our shipment of the best coffee out of Michigan. The Grand Rapids born and roasted, MADCAP Coffee recently released their limited edition Spring Fling beans, and man what a good cup of coffee.

Fired up the gas burner last night and boiled some water to pour over this magic. Had some hot coffee in a non air-conditioned room while it was eighty-eight degrees outside. Dedicated.

Pardon my coffee cup being stained. Haven't washed that fucker in like a week.
